Hints on Selecting an Online Publishing Package Supplier

The wrong digital catalog software can break even the most creative online publication. The most important call to take when you’re producing an ebrochure is picking your software supplier. They do so much more than merely help you place your content into some pleasant format.

The essential part of the package is, naturally, it’s intuitiveness. After all, it doesn’t matter how extraordinary the package is if you yourself can’t use it. Your electronic catalog should be important enough to you for you to test out different providers. Because hacking and spamming are online issues, protection should be your second main consideration as you’re making a digital publication. Is there something in situ to secure the package? Will the content be secured? Can individuals simply copy-paste your content or has the software supplier protection in place peventing these things? Is your content secure?

Has a business plan been created? Social-media, ads, these are things that should be covered irrespective of which marketing strategy you’re using. Thinking about search engines is also very important as you consider how to sell your flash magazine. Will you combine free content and paid? Can you offer one copy and multiple possibilities for subscription? Also, the nature of your content – is it monetized in any way? What about using summaries to market this online publication? How accessible is the catalog? If it’ll be private you can investigate all your hosting options or will it be public? In which case you should host directly. What have you planned for as regards back-issues? Technical support provided by your software provider is your final consideration. Do they offer merely emergency tech-support? Response time is the last concern. Are there good FAQs? Such things you should examine prior to any problems, it’ll be a good thing you did!

Only utterly careful choice will be rewarded with accomplishment. When making your publication, the selection of hosting service will be what decides its success.

Outsourcing, Virtual Teams and Cybermediaries – Part 1

When I was writing this blog the snowball effect seemed to talk hold of me and so it was split into two parts!

The has been much press about outsourcing over recent years. Call centres to India were the initial hole in the dam. As this hole expanded to allow more trade it sucked in medical billing processes, content for publications, x-ray and even private tutoring for children.

The use of technology and collaboration tools have helped to minimise any pains with transition to outsourced skills and the management of them but technology is not the answer to everything.
The concept of virtual teams can increase our productivity. If you are happy to work more than 7 hours a day then you could start with you virtual team in Mumbai and finish your day with your colleagues in Vancouver or San Francisco, stopping a couple of times in Europe on the way. Sacrificing a few hours of mundane TV watching could prove to be an investment in your future.

Leon and I were talking with Charles Carleton and Dennis Warren from Jyve Pro last night. Among many other things, we discussed how their technology is the realisation of a concept that Leon had two year previous and then wrote about in his book (so it is possible to predict the future ;) ). We focussed for some time on how Jyve Pro will initially be launched into the a market place which is typically has high throughput, with an low/average compensation.
Arguably this is a good place to start as it may be possible to secure a large subscriber base with little effort and many would speculate that the subscriber base, and not the revenue, should be the first “quick win”. But what about legal advice, accountancy advice as examples. The subscriber base for these alone must be huge. Not only that but it is high value too. I think there will be considerable kudos to the first legal firm to provide instant, 24/7, voip, by the minute advice to clients. Think about this in the context of the first paragraph above. The law firm doesn’t need the staff to deliver the service, just the network. The network can be anywhere.
