For one, I couldn’t characterize myself as terribly happy living alone and not crack a smile. Even then, I’m not unhappy with the reality of life, either. I just mention it on the blogosphere as an appetizing little tidbit setting up the story I am about to unravel!
A week ago today I met for coffee with Trisha, considering signing up for a dating service for Phoenix singles. Today, I stand to you as a happy member of the singles network. Seriously, I am. It’s full of fun, attractive people! If you’ve been paying attention, you may be wondering, “Stop blabbering and tell me about it already.”
Well, I noticed this Great Expectations Dating site and felt encouraged. They’re for the serious singles who think dating should have a point.
Quite frankly, I’d never been a fan of the ridiculous nightlife ritual serial daters (ie: everyone I know) have named “The Dating Experience.” I heard it all the time. Every night friends nagg, “Are you two serious yet?” and “You should date!”
“Ugh, and double ugh.” I reply, and playfully so. “There’s nothing to date!”
“Not true,” they deadpan. “How would you know, you haven’t seen Friday Night Magic in a year!”
Thankfully, that’s my partner in crime (she’s the best) hah! Patty Feldman. She sets the best ideas to my mind to set me straight. Caring souls are always there for fresh advice. Can’t argue with that, so I signed up.
Back to the point of this blog entry. As I selected from more than three hundred combinations of outfits for my first singles event with Great Expectations, I acknowledged something honest. For the longest time, I hadn’t allowed myself too many literal great expectations for dating in the fun-filled journey of being human. Being single isn’t so bad, even more so with healthy optimism. Having great expectations makes a difference on a cynics social life.
