Referees wear different soccer uniforms than the soccer players’ uniforms.
Usually referees’ soccer uniformsoccer uniforms are mainly black colored with minimal color trim, with black socks. There are now a few different referee colors such as red with black stripes but the traditional color is just black with white trim. The socks also were traditionally black but now can be black with white trim up at the top. Referees have to wear all the same types of clothes as the other soccer players but their Gordon International soccer uniform can be long-sleeved in colder climates due to not having to run around like the soccer players. Referee soccer uniform shorts are almost always black still.
The main purpose of a referee soccer uniform is to make the referee stand out compared to other team members from both sides. Therefore if one team’s soccer uniform is green with white stripes and the other is blue with red stripes, having a referee in a soccer uniform soccer uniform that is also red with blue stripes might not make the referee stand out enough, particularly compared to the goalie who will also have a different uniform that could well be the opposite colours as the rest of the soccer team to differentiate his position.
