Premium: The amount you pay for one year’s insurance

Excess: The amount that you have to pay in the event of a claim

Third Party, Fire and Theft: this form of cover only covers you for damage caused to somebody else’s property but not your own. You are also covered if your car catches fire or is stolen.

Comprehensive: This type of cover is the same as third party, fire and theft but your car is also covered in the event of a crash.

No Claims Bonus (NCB): you are given a discount on your insurance policy for every year that you have not made a claim. The maximum discount that is usually available is 60% and is applicable if you have 5 a five years no claims bonus. Many companies offer no claims protection when you have 3 years no claims and are 25 years old, which normally allows you to have 2 or claims in 3 years without losing your NCB.
